Shaykh Moaz al-Khatib’s Courageous Call for Freedom in the Face of Oppression

Freedom is granted by God, not by a ruler, or a government, or a state

Shaykh Moaz al-Khatib is a former a Imam of the Great Ummayad Mosque in Damascus and son of the prominent Damascene scholar Shaykh Muhammad Abul Faraj al-Khatib al-Hasani. This is Shaykh Moaz’ website:

An advocate for freedom and dignity, Shaykh Moaz has been part of this revolution long before it started, and one of its sources of guidance when it began. Because of this, the always kind and warm Shaykh has been arrested numerous times, the last time being in April earlier this year. A FB page was set up to protest this injustice, and demonstrations were held in support of him throughout the country. The following was from Idlib, May 15, 2012:

And this is from a massive demonstration from Damascus on May 12, 2012, shown on Jazeera:

A song dedicated to his freedom:

He has been released [again] since, God knows what these monsters have been doing to him in those torture chambers they call detention centres. He appeared on the Jazeera program Shari`a & Hayat yesterday which isn’t available yet. This means he is no longer in Syria, but it would not be the first time for him to go back after having been arrested. These are from April 2011.

All the Shaykh ever called to was faith, freedom, human rights, unity of the Syrian people of different religious and ethnic backgrounds, peaceful protests, and the end of fear, oppression and injustice. And that is why he was made to suffer by this demonic regime.
